Fungicides for Foliar Disease Management – Jeff Miller

This presentation will discuss how well the current fungicides are working against early blight, brown spot, white mold, and gray mold. Additionally, the current status of fungicide resistance to these fungicides will be addressed.

How do the various seed piece treatments work on Rhizoctonia canker and tuber scurf? How effective are the different in-furrow fungicides? How do biological fungicides compare to conventional standards. These questions will be addressed in this presentation.

Comparison of Fumigation Methods with Metam Sodium – Trent Taysom

Research over the past four years has evaluated metam sodium fumigation when applied broadcast and as an in-row application. This presentation will review the relative performance of each method on controlling Verticillium wilt and potato yield and grade. Additional options as alternatives to Vapam will also be addressed.

Fusarium Dry Rot and Seed Piece Decay – Jeff Miller

Fusarium seems to be increasing in incidence and severity. This presentation will show data on variety susceptibility to dry rot and show how seed piece treatments (dry and liquid) can be used to manage this disease.

Glyphosate – Terrific Tool or Terrible Toxin? – Jeff Miller

Glyphosate is the most common herbicide used worldwide. It has been a terrific tool for agriculture as a broad-spectrum weed killer. Recently, trace amounts of glyphosate have been reported in common foods and in human tissues. In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) declared glyphosate to be “probably carcinogenic” to humans. Since then, hundreds of lawsuits have been filed against Monsanto claiming that glyphosate use has caused cancer. Is glyphosate a terrible toxin? This presentation will show what the science says.
