All are invited to come and pick potatoes at the Miller Research Farm at 250 North 350 East in Rupert on Saturday, September 28 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. We will be digging a portion of the field beginning at 8:00 am and another portion beginning at 12:00 pm so freshly harvested potatoes will be available in the afternoon.
If you are able, please bring food items that can be given to the Open Hearts Food Pantry operated by the Methodist Church in Rupert. There is a need for tuna, canned soups, chili, canned fruit or vegetables, box mac and cheese, and pasta sauce. Any donations will be welcome! You can also make a cash donation to help with the operation of the pantry.
We only have Russet Burbank potatoes this year – no reds. The potatoes have been raised according to safe, conventional agricultural practices.
You will need to provide your own boxes or bags.
Please only pick in designated areas! Piles of potatoes outside of this area were used in field experiments and we are not giving these away. Many of those piles were harvested earlier and those potatoes have been in the sun, turned green, and are not fit to eat.
Parking will be available on both sides of the flagged potato area and on the north and south ends of the field. Please watch for the signs and follow the directions of the Miller Research personnel wearing bright yellow shirts. Please be considerate and patient with others! There will be a lot of cars at times and care is needed so that everyone can get in and out of the field. We will have people to help carry your boxes and bags to your cars if needed.
Please give the harvester plenty of room! We ask you not to crowd too close to the harvester as it passes by.
Please watch for the irrigation risers on each end of the field. Posts have been placed near the risers to help people avoid running into them.
Please feel free to share this invitation with anyone who would be interested.
