All are invited to come and pick potatoes at the Miller Research Farm at 225 North 400 East in Rupert on Saturday, September 26 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. We will be digging a portion of the field beginning at 9:00 and another portion beginning at 1:00 so freshly harvested potatoes will be available in the afternoon.
The field is a quarter-mile north of the Miller Research office. We only have Russet Burbank potatoes this year. The potatoes have been raised according to safe, conventional agricultural practices.
You will need to provide your own boxes or bags.
Please only pick in designated areas! Piles of potatoes outside of this area were used in field experiments and we are not giving these away. Many of those piles were harvested earlier. Those potatoes have sat in the sun, turned green, and are not fit to eat.
Parking will be available on the north and south side of the field. Watch for the signs and follow the directions of the Miller Research personnel wearing bright yellow shirts. You can also drive through the field in designated areas if your vehicle is capable.
Please watch for the irrigation risers on each end of the field. Buckets have been placed over the risers to help people avoid running into them.
Please feel free to share this invitation with anyone who would be interested. Contact Jeff Miller or Cheryn Clayton at (208) 531-5124 if you have any questions.
In accordance with local health department recommendations, we encourage all to maintain 6-ft physical distancing at the event and to wear a mask if that is not possible.
Also – this year we are asking for your help. If you are in a position to help, please bring some food items that can be given to the Open Hearts Food Pantry in Rupert. There is a need for tuna, canned soups, chili, canned fruit or vegetables, box mac and cheese, and pasta sauce. Any donations will be welcome!
