All are invited to come and pick all the potatoes you want at the Miller Research Farm at 400 East 200 North near Acequia (northeast of Rupert) on Saturday, September 24 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. We will be digging a portion of the field beginning at 8:00 and another portion beginning at 10:30 so freshly harvested potatoes will be available for the entire time. There is no cost but you need to provide your own boxes or bags.
We only have Russet Burbank potatoes this year – no reds. The potatoes were raised according to safe, conventional agricultural practices.
Please only pick in designated areas! Piles of potatoes outside of this area were used in field experiments and we are not giving these away. Many of those piles were harvested earlier and those potatoes have been in the sun, turned green, and are not fit to eat.
Parking will be available along the sides of the potato area and on the north and south of the field. Please watch for the signs and follow the directions of the Miller Research personnel wearing bright yellow shirts. Please be considerate and patient with others! There will be a lot of cars at times and care is needed so that everyone can get in and out of the field. We will have people to help carry your boxes and bags to your car, if needed.
Please give the harvester plenty of room! We ask you not to crowd too close to the harvester as it passes by.
Please watch for the irrigation risers on each end of the field. Buckets will be placed over the risers to help people avoid running into them. Please do not take the buckets!
Also – we are asking for your help again this year. If you can help, please bring some food items for the Open Hearts Food Pantry operated by the Methodist Church in Rupert. There is a need for tuna, canned soups, chili, canned fruit or vegetables, box mac and cheese, and pasta sauce. Any and all donations are welcome!
Please feel free to share this invitation with anyone who would be interested.
